Honoree Summary

The Wabash Clay Company, located in Veedersburg, Indiana, was a major producer of high-quality paving bricks in the early 1900s. In 1909, it supplied about 3.5 million bricks to pave the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, helping give the track its famous nickname, “The Brickyard.” The company’s bricks became an important part of Indiana’s industrial history and many of the original bricks still remain at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today.
