Charlie Wiggins (1897–1979) was an African American race-car driver from Evansville, Indiana, who became known as the “Negro Speed King.” He competed in and promoted automobile racing despite racial barriers that prevented Black drivers from participating in the Indianapolis 500 at the time. Wiggins is remembered as a pioneering figure in American motorsports and was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
