Don Smith was a Terre Haute businessman and longtime leader in American auto racing, serving as Director of Racing at the Terre Haute Action Track from 1953 to 1980 and helping establish the track as a major national racing venue. (USAC Racing) He was instrumental in creating the Tony Hulman Classic in 1971, while also contributing to the Indiana State Fair’s Hoosier Hundred and serving in leadership roles with USAC and other racing organizations.
